EU-Updated Export Certificates required for Food and Animal commodities

Here is an important update for commercial food and animal commodity exporters. New export certificates will be required if you are an exporter of these food items. Please see the full details below.

Effective August 21, 2021, under the new European Union (EU) Animal Health Law (AHL) that came into force in spring 2021, exporters for commercial food and animal commodities destined for the European Union (EU) will be required to use updated export certificates. Export certificates can be accessed through the online platform, Trade Control and Expert System New Technology (TRACES NT), which serves as the EU’s e-certification system.  Current export certificates will continue to be accepted by the EU until October 20, 2021, provided they are signed before August 21, 2021. Certification with the European Union will be secure, convenient and streamlined using the TRACES NT system and offers new benefits to improve the export process.

Important Details

As a prerequisite, an EU login account and user access profile must be created in TRACES NT, followed by an email request to the CFIA to validate the profile. This process creates the linkages to establishments that are on the existing EU eligibility lists to ensure a streamlined certificate issuance process.

Exporters will then be able to complete the details of part 1 of  an export certificate in TRACES NT, submit their request in the TRACES NT system and then, they will request export services (inspection and certificate issuance)from their local CFIA office.

Industry has access to training on how to use TRACES NT with a step-by-step instructional materials on TRACES NT documentation website.

For more information on how to create an EU login account and user access profile in TRACES NT and to complete part 1 of the required certificate, see the step-by-step instructional materials visit TRACES NT documentation website.

Contact the TRACES NT Helpdesk to obtain more information on the use of TRACES NT at +32 2 297 63 50 or email: SANTE-TRACES@ec.europa.eu.
